NAVIGATION HINTS

The timeline chronologically follows the passing of time in history. A horizontal "axis of time" that follows the framework of the Didactic Museum has been designed, which begins in 1836 and ends in 1907 accordingly. Altogether 26 didactic panels, which contain information on important processes and forms of usage of photography, were selected.

Once the homepage has been left behind, small illustrations of the didactic panels become visible above the axis of time. They are highlighted with coloured bars, which mark the respective period that was written on the panels by Krone.
Navigation on the axis of time is possible by clicking and pulling on the switch found on the grey highlighted scroll bar. In order to move forwards or backwards from the selected position, use the memory function of the browser (left and right arrows in the upper left area).

From the first level one progresses to the second level by clicking on an image with the mouse. Here, a larger version of the image of the respective didactic panel and its introductory text is found.
The latter includes a description of the contents of the didactic panel, comments on photo-historical topics, and problems that can be derived from them in a shortened form. Marked passages in the text link to individual enlarged illustrations. Above and below the short essay, the text line "Aspects of Photohistory" is found. This phrase leads to the third level, in which further information encourages more detailed and systematic understanding.

The following structural items were chosen:

1. Technology and processes
2. Practical applications
3. Inventors and photographers
4. Identification
5. Excursions

The structural scheme was only completed where it appeared meaningful. The terms and biographies are separately reachable by clicking on "glossary", which is alphabetically sorted and can be activated at any time in the top right area of the screen. With exception of the introductory essays, technical terms and names mentioned in the articles are linked with the glossary, so that specific information can be found at any time. A summary of the item "Identification" is integrated into the glossary, so that an overview can be acquired quickly. In addition, the texts and illustrations on the identification of photographic materials are individually assigned to the respective process examples.

The axis of time with the thumbnail illustrations remains visible in all screens. In this manner, orientation is maintained, and access to the second level is always possible.

Terms that do not change their appearance when scrolled over have not yet been activated. Their functionality will be integrated at a later time.
